SOLWEZI District Agricultural Officer, Mutinta Zulu says the District is projecting a bumper harvest for the 2024/2025 farming season.
Mrs Zulu stated that the Province had received adequate rainfall, which enabled the crops to grow well.
She told ZANIS in an interview that the timely distribution of inputs had also made it possible for the farmers to plant the crops in good time.
Mrs Zulu said the province also managed to contain armyworms in good time.
“We are happy to see the performance of maize and other crops, we are confident that we will record a bumper harvest,” she said.
Mrs Zulu appealed to the government to consider allocating more armyworm pesticides to the district because the number of farmers was growing.
“We have recorded an increase in the number of farmers as people are now appreciating the importance of investing in the agriculture sector and they are eager to contribute to the food security of the country,” she said.
And Mrs Zulu thanked Government for procuring motorbikes for extension officers to help ease their mobility.
She said the motorbikes had enhanced service delivery in agriculture camps.
