IT is disappointing that law enforcers are now the ones breaking the law in a government that is pontificating righteousness in observing the rule of law, Stephen Kampyongo has said.
Mr Kampyongo, the Shiwang’andu Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament has said it was unfortunate that law enforcement agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEC) had elected to take unlawful actions in their quest to please their appointing authority.
He said in an interview that the PF was concerned that law enforcement agencies who were supposed to protect and defend the law were leading in breaching the constitution in pursuing their suspects.
Mr Kampyongo said it was disappointing that law enforcers would act unlawfully in a government that preached to rule of law. He said the DEC was acting emotionally on matters that they were supposed to be pursued professional devoid of any form of biasness.
Mr Kampyongo cautioned the UPND government to keep in mind that they would not be in government in perpetuity and that like any other government before, the UPND would have to leave and Zambians would demand accountability for their actions.
He said the UPND government should be careful how they treated former President Edgar Lungu and the people from the previous regime to avoid the same treatment repeating once they leave office.
